What to Know Before Your Eyelash Extension Appointment

Please read the following information carefully before your appointment. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know before your service begins.

Recent Lash Lifts

Please let me know before booking if you have recently had a lash lift or lash perm, including the treatment date.

At Painterly by Saki, I do not apply extensions while a previous lift remains pronounced. The altered lash direction can limit placement and make it difficult to create and maintain your intended design.

I generally recommend waiting approximately six to eight weeks after a lift, then reassessing your lashes. More time may be needed depending on how much of the lift remains.

Weddings and Special Events

For your first lash extension appointment before a wedding or another important event, I recommend planning two visits whenever possible.

Ideally, schedule your first set about one month before the event. This gives us time to review the design, see how the lashes wear, and help you become comfortable with aftercare. A final appointment can then be planned approximately two to three days before the event.

An earlier appointment also gives us time to address any sensitivity that occurs, although a reaction-free first visit cannot rule out a later allergic reaction.

Please share your event date and travel schedule before booking so we can plan your appointments together.

Before Your Appointment

Please arrive without mascara, strip-lash adhesive, or other eye makeup whenever possible. Avoid using an eyelash curler or applying oily products around the eye area and please avoid any caffein drinks before your appointment, as residue may interfere with the application and retention of the extensions.

Please remove your contact lenses before the service and bring a lens case with you.

Health and Sensitivity

Please inform us in advance if you have:

Any allergies or sensitivities to lash adhesive, cyanoacrylate, tape, eye pads, cosmetics, or adhesive remover
A previous reaction to eyelash extensions, a lash lift, tinting, or another eye-area service
Redness, swelling, itching, pain, an infection, a sty, conjunctivitis, or broken skin around the eyes
Dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, dry eye syndrome, or another condition affecting the eyes or surrounding skin
Recently undergone eye surgery, LASIK, permanent makeup, or another procedure around the eyes
Any sensitivity to LED light, UV light, or sunlight
Medication, eye drops, or topical treatment that may affect the eye area or increase sensitivity to light

Sensitivity and physical responses may vary depending on individual factors, including hormonal changes, menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding, lack of sleep, stress, illness, or changes in general health. These factors may make the skin and eye area feel more sensitive than usual and may increase the likelihood of irritation or discomfort.

Please let me know about any recent changes in your eye or skin condition, general health, medications, or treatments. This helps me assess whether to proceed, adjust the service, or recommend postponing your appointment.

For your safety, we may modify, discontinue, decline, or reschedule the service depending on the condition of your eyes, surrounding skin, natural lashes, or general health on the day of your appointment.

Clients must be at least 16 years old. Clients under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete and sign the consent form.

During Your Appointment

Eyelash extensions are applied to individual natural eyelashes using a professional adhesive. They are not intentionally attached directly to the skin. Extensions are applied to individual natural lashes, with a small gap from the skin. The adhesive and extensions should not touch the eyelid.

Please keep your eyes closed throughout the procedure and avoid sudden movements. Let your lash artist know immediately if you need to cough, sneeze, change position, or if you experience pain, burning, stinging, itching, unusual warmth, or any other discomfort.

Design, Retention and the Natural Lash Cycle

Your lash design will be customized according to your eye shape, natural lash condition, personal preferences, and the number of extensions that can be applied safely.

Natural eyelashes continuously grow and shed as part of their normal growth cycle. Extensions attached to shedding lashes will fall out with the natural lashes.

Retention varies depending on your natural lash cycle, lash condition, lifestyle, home care, skincare and cosmetic products, and other individual factors. Specific retention or results cannot be guaranteed. Regular maintenance appointments are recommended to preserve the desired fullness and design.

Aftercare

Please follow the aftercare instructions provided for the adhesive system used during your appointment.

For conventional adhesive, avoid water, steam, swimming, and excessive moisture for at least six hours after the service. LED-cured extensions may be exposed to water immediately after the service.

To maintain your extensions:

Clean your lashes regularly using a cleanser suitable for eyelash extensions.
Do not rub, pull, or pick at the extensions.
Do not attempt to remove the extensions yourself.
Avoid mechanical eyelash curlers.
Use only mascara formulated for eyelash extensions, if needed.
Avoid sleeping face-down or placing excessive pressure on the lashes.
Be careful with cotton pads, towels, and other materials whose fibers may catch on the extensions.
After cleansing, gently pat the eye area dry or use a hair dryer on the cool setting.

Products containing oils may affect some conventional adhesives. Please follow the product recommendations provided for your specific adhesive system.

If You Experience a Reaction

Temporary watering, redness, itching, swelling, dryness, stinging, irritation, or an allergic reaction may occur during or after the service despite proper application and safety precautions. A reaction may develop even if you have previously received eyelash extensions without experiencing a problem.

If you develop redness, swelling, itching, pain, or persistent discomfort, contact an eye-care professional and let me know. Seek urgent medical care for changes in vision or severe eye pain.

Do not pull off or attempt to remove the extensions yourself.

Complimentary professional removal may be offered in the event of a suspected allergic reaction. The original service fee is nonrefundable once the service has been completed, except as otherwise required by law.
